Trumpets without slides, valves or finger holes, were restricted to the natural notes (the harmonic series). The pitch of these notes is dependent on the length of the tube, but the intervals between the notes is always the same. Smaller examples of the trumpet were known as Clarion the larger examples in this case 48" long are grander instruments suitable for military use and ceremonial. Also suitable for use as a Roman Tuba. |
